Sappho and the Mountain Hare ®️ meditations and courses should be seen as ‘ entertainments’ and are not therapeutic.
We strongly recommend that meditation for mental health purposes should be done in consultation with a mental health professional.
Meditation has been found to be triggering for some mental health conditions and in certain circumstances.
If you suffer from any mental health conditions we strongly recommend that you seek advice from a trained professional.
Around one in five people at any time will suffer from mental health issues. There is no shame attached.
Our courses are best avoided if:
- If you have or are currently experiencing psychosis or delusions.
- You have experienced increased anxiety or disassociate during or between meditations in the past or in your current practice
- You are or have self-harmed or have suicidal thoughts
- You have depression or have recently suffered a bereavement
- You are in ongoing psychiatric or psychological treatment.
It is important to consider your personal history too. Please keep yourself safe. Meditative activities can bring back memories of traumatic events. Please consider what traumas you have suffered, your experience of the trauma, and the impact on your mental health. Traumatic events include fires, accidents, assaults, natural disasters, witnessing the suffering of others etc.
Experiencing these types of events doesn’t necessarily mean meditation will do you harm but you should be aware of the potential for memories to be brought back and consider how this might affect you.
We recommend considering your own mental health and scientific literacy before engaging in meditative activities so that you can understand the potential positive and negative effects.
